After a quarter of a century of devolution, it makes no sense that our Senedd does not have control over either criminal justice or the proper powers to build a more equal Wales. Plaid Cymru candidates in this election will make it front and centre of their campaign to fight to fully devolve the criminal justice system, from police to prisons to probation, so that we can create a fairer and more equal justice system.

Plaid Cymru will also focus our campaign on a policing strategy which reduces the economic and advantage gap by lifting those people with the least and tackling the discriminations that entrench inequality. Furthermore, Plaid Cymru PCCs would introduce reform of policies around substance use, work to reduce reoffending, enhance victim support and tackle hate crime.

Other parties will talk of changes that tinker around the edges of the justice system, but Plaid Cymru are the only party fighting for long-term, fundamental change by challenging the UK Government to ensure a Fair Funding Formula for Wales and by calling for the devolution of the criminal justice system.

Our manifesto for the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Elections for the four police forces in Wales, held on 2 May 2024, is available here.
